Elder Patricia E. Nelson is a native Washingtonian born June 3 to the late Myron W. and the late Iris L. Nelson. She was educated in both the public and private school systems. Elder Pat earned her Baccalaureate of Science degree in nursing from the Catholic University of America School of Nursing in 1973.
She served as an Emergency/Trauma Nurse and manager for over 25 years in the District of Columbia and the State of Maryland hospital systems. She recently served as a Nursing Inspector and Surveyor for Hospitals with the District of Columbia’s Department of Health, Licensing and Regulatory Administration for 12 years. Elder Pat retired from government services on August 30, 2013.
Elder Pat was drawn by the Spirit of God into a saving relationship with her Lord and Saviour Jesus the Christ in March 1994. She fulfilled the ordinance of Baptism on May 27, 1994.
Elder Pat was initially positioned by the Lord in the Newness of Life Bible Church (NLBC) located in Bealeton, Virginia, under the leadership of Pastors James and Vanessa Mills. There the Lord enabled her to grow strong in spirit and to increase in the wisdom, knowledge and grace of God for 13 years.
During her appointed time at NLBC, Elder Pat was licensed as a Minister to preach the Gospel on March 7, 1999. After further concentrated studies under the God Is In Control Church, Inc., Another Touch of Glory Ministries, she received her credentials of ordination as an Ordained Elder in the office of a Teacher, on October 9, 1999.
To further equip and prepare her for the work of ministry, Elder Pat completed various biblically-based ministerial courses, seminars and workshops and received several certificates in the areas of: Old Testament Survey; Study of the Prophets & the Prophetic; Evangelism & Witnessing; Preparation for Eldership; Deliverance; and Christian Servanthood: Foundation of Ministry Unto the Lord.
Elder Pat served in many areas of ministry while at Newness of Life, which included: Financial Board Treasurer; Church Trustee; Superintendent of Sunday Schools; Hospital Outreach Pastor; Elder (Seniors)-Watch Ministry Head; and Pastor/Teacher of the “Back to Basics” Teaching ministry.
On February 28, 2007, by divine direction and instruction from God, Elder Pat concluded her ministerial duties at the Newness of Life Bible Church. She was then led by the Spirit of God to continue the work of ministry at the First Baptist Church of Capitol Heights (FBCCH) on March 4, 2007, under the skilled tutelage and divine stewardship of Reverend Harold Lafayette Dugger, Sr.
Elder Pat continues God’s ministry work and calling at the FBCCH in the areas of pastoral assistance, evangelism outreach, and bible-study teaching. She currently serves as the Executive Administrator to the Pastor; Director of the Ministry of Christian Education; Co-Director of the Evangelism Outreach Ministry; Overseer of the Congregational-Care Ministry; Pulpit Ministerial Staff member; and primary teacher in the FBCCH Ortho Toméo School of the Bible’s: “Salvation: How to Become a Christian” course.
Elder Pat most recently attended the Calvary Bible Institute in Washington, DC where she was enrolled in the Certificate of Biblical Studies Program. She successfully completed the ‘New Testament Survey’ course in the Spring of 2013 where she received an A+ grade with a 4.0 cumulative GPA. Her desire is to continue her biblical studies with a primary focus and concentration in the study of apologetics.
Elder Pat has a true heart for the people of God; purposes to walk in the truth and integrity of the Will and the Word of God; and teaches with the passion and intent of the hearer to come to a deeper understanding of the Word of God, evidenced by a godly transformed life and lifestyle.
Her favorite Scripture verse comes from Matthew 11:12: “And from the days of John the Baptist until now, the Kingdom of Heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force”.
