Elder Patricia E. Nelson

Elder Patricia E. Nelson is a native Washingtonian born June 3 to the late Myron W. and Iris L. Nelson. She was educated in both the public and private school systems. Elder Pat earned her Baccalaureate of Science degree in Nursing from the Catholic University of America School of Nursing in 1973.

She served as an Emergency/Trauma Nurse and manager for over 25 years in the District of Columbia and the State of Maryland hospital systems. She recently served as a Nursing Inspector and Surveyor for Hospitals with the District of Columbia’s Department of Health, Licensing and Regulatory Administration for 12 years. Elder Pat retired from government services on August 30, 2013.

Elder Pat was drawn by the Spirit of God into a saving relationship with her Lord and Saviour Jesus the Christ in March 1994. She was initially positioned by the Lord in the Newness of Life Bible Church ministry of Bealeton, Virginia, under the leadership of Pastors James and Vanessa Mills. There the Lord enabled her to grow strong in spirit and to increase in the wisdom, knowledge and grace of God for 13 years. She fulfilled the ordinance of Baptism on May 27, 1994.

During her appointed time at the Newness of Life Bible Church, Elder Pat was licensed as a Minister to preach the Gospel on March 7, 1999.

After further concentrated studies under the God Is In Control Church, Inc, Another Touch of Glory Ministries, she received her credentials of ordination as an Ordained Elder in the office of a Teacher, on October 9, 1999.

Elder Pat served in many areas of ministry while at Newness of Life, which included the following: Financial Board Treasurer; Church Trustee; Superintendent of Sunday Schools; Hospital Outreach Pastor; Elder (Seniors)-Watch Ministry Head; and Pastor/Teacher of the “Back to Basics” Teaching ministry.

She attended many classes and received several certificates for continued ministerial studies in the following areas: Old Testament Survey (May 6, 1998); The School of the Prophets Level One (1) {July 31, 1999}; Witnessing (August 5 through September 23, 1999); Preparation for Eldership (August/September 1999); Deliverance (September 29 through November 10, 1999); and Servanthood: Foundation of Ministry Unto the Lord at the Crown of Christ Bible Institute (January 19, 2002 to April 27, 2002).

On February 28, 2007, by divine direction and instruction from God, Elder Pat concluded her work at the Newness of Life Bible Church. She was led by the Spirit of God to continue the work of ministry at the First Baptist Church of Capitol Heights (FBCCH) on March 4, 2007, under the skilled tutelage and divine stewardship of Pastor Harold Lafayette Dugger, Sr.

Elder Pat continues God’s ministry work and calling at the FBCCH in the areas of pastoral assistance, evangelism outreach, and bible-study teaching. She currently serves as the Director of the Christian Education Ministry; Co-Director of the Evangelism Outreach Ministry; Overseer of the Congregational-Care Ministry; Pulpit Ministerial Staff, and primary teacher in the FBCCH Ortho Toméo School of the Bible’s: “Salvation: How to Become a Christian” course.

Elder Pat is also currently attending the Calvary Bible Institute in Washington, DC where she is enrolled in the Certificate of Biblical StudiesProgram. She recently completed the ‘New Testament Survey’ course in the Spring of 2013 where she obtained an A+ grade with a 4.0 cumulative GPA.

She has a true heart for the people of God; purposes to walk in the truth and integrity of the Will and the Word of God; and teaches with the passion and intent of the hearer to come to a deeper understanding of the Word of God.

Her favorite Scripture verse comes from Matthew 11:12: “And from the days of John the Baptist until now, the Kingdom of Heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force”.
